The Sloan
Hollistic Wellness Center for MSK Breast Cancer Patients
Why is it needed?

Statistics show that 1 in every 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their life time. With this number increasing each year it has become the most common type of cancer among women. Due to the increase in cases it is vital that we create a comfortable environment for these women.

What is our mission?

The mission for The Sloan is to be a safe space for breast cancer patients to grow physically; in strength, mentally; by changing their way of thought and listening to their emotions, and spiritually; to develop a higher awareness and consciousness.

How is this executed?

As a support center it was an important to understand not just how humans connect but how nature connects as well. The Forest of Talking Trees is an amazing discovery that trees communicate through a natural fungal network. Through this network they are able to send signals to each other when they are in need of certain nutrients or are in danger At the head of it all is the mother tree who is responsible for nurturing it community.
Taking a biophilic approach The Sloan will act as the mother tree by providing these women will all the essential resources and activities to help these women become stronger mentally, physically, and spiritually. The connections made inside this network will support these women in fostering more positive relationships with themselves and others. Not only does this work hand and hand with our mission but also works as the organizing principal in which the whole building was designed around.
